I'm So Excited! My First Short Story - Coming September 2nd

Midlife unraveling, research on women, sex, and God, and moving to a beach town forced a reunion with a buried part of myself. I am excitedly working to publish a memoir, When Sex Meets God, research, and short stories inspired by my most awkward, intense and meaningful experiences.

If you appreciate the unexpected craziness of midlife, the awkwardness and vulnerability that comes from awakening sexually on a deeper level, and a more nuanced and spiritual experience of sexual desire, I think you’ll like my story.

About My Story – The Fantasy

How life had changed for 55-year-old Sophia. The ending of a 24-year marriage, the pursuit of a PhD, getting her children off to college. Even a soulmate relationship with a younger man – 17 years younger! – which ended just as dramatically as it had begun.

Two months ago, Sophia had sold her house and everything in it, said goodbye to her adult children, and drove down to Florida to live in a beach town. No sooner had she started settling into her new life than memories of her brief encounter with another man – Jason – twelve months earlier erupted from her unconscious.

Sigh. Timing is everything, and alas, it was not meant to be – at least not then, and not on Sophia’s terms.

Now, Sophia began to see his likeness everywhere. The fantasy reunion tortured her. Then one evening: The familiar voice came from the man seated at the other end of the bar. “Stop!” Sophia told herself. She had been duped many times by her over-active imagination. “Is it him?”

Sexual attraction is like a gift of grace with an agenda and timeline all its own.

If you’re on my email list, you’ll receive my formal announcement on September 2nd with links to get my FREE story. Make sure you’re on the list by subscribing here.

I Entered My First Writing Contest!

I entered my first writing contest, sponsored by Short Fiction Break and The Write Practice! Read it here, along with other submissions. If you like my story, vote for it to win the Readers’ Choice Award.

Those of you who know me appreciate – or are amused by – my obsession for finding meaning and purpose in my crazy midlife journey. My short stories provide opportunities for me to do both. Entertaining you is my first goal. Finding yourself or someone else in my carefully nuanced characters might also inspire an appreciation of your own life as a super interesting Netflix series.

Unleashed is a story about, well, unleashing a part of yourself, that’s been buried, undermined, neglected, or feared. It typically erupts after a period of reckoning with the things that have been stuck the shadow. Coming into relationship with these things can feel terrifying and disorienting, and healing that’s required is hard work.

One More Story

If you haven’t had a chance to read A Single Moment, click here. It’s about that moment that only some recognize, that moment that confirms you’re not in the threshold anymore, that space between death and rebirth, between shedding and growing. Read it here.
